Scuttlebutt is there is a lightweight starter from Sky tech (now defunct) that will fit the Franklin 90. Southern Aero (Robert Still) knows about them and where one might purchase. Several pounds can be saved with the change over. Also there is a conversion to change the heavy Eisemamn mags out. That plus an alternator should shave 15 or more pounds off the engine. Check it out. ::)

Hay Woody: I havn't seen any new pictures on your web site in a long time how about an update. Have you bought these weight saving items for your engine?

Sky-Tec is defunct? I don't believe that is so.

The word was scuttlebutt -- That's what Southern Aero told me and I know the man that bought up their supplies. That's all I know as I too did not believe it at first.

I'm working on another plane right now. If everyone will pitch in $1000 I'll post more pictures on my site. (ha)
I need to upgrade the entire web site and I do have a few new pictures including a rebuilt Franklin. Yes -- If possible, I plan on making the engine as light as possible.

Update ~~~ Air tech is still in business: I just talked with them so my info was wrong. :-\
Maybe the guy did buy out the remaining stock that Sky Tech still had for the Franklin. I will try to find out. I think that is the case. Sky Tech quit making the starter for the Franklin. The man in Ga. bought the remaining stock of THAT starter. Maybe my story is now straight.

Before purchasing a lightweight starter or an alternator for a Franklin engine, make sure you can get it blessed by the FAA. It's possible that the only approved data for the installations are for the 6 cylinder Franklins.

Does anyone know of an FAA approval for the installation of Slick mags on a Franklin 4AC199-E3?
I'm also looking for the correct Marvel Scheibler carburetor for the Franklin 4AC199E3 engine. I think it's a model MA3 or MA3A, but I'm not sure of the 10-XXXX number.

Bill, I have a Marvel Schebler MA-3 carb. It does not have a tag but the numbers stamped on it are 17865, 10-2153. I can send pictures if you are interested. Tim
