: Philips screws
: JohnGee August 24, 2014, 08:20:08 AM
I am rebuilding my Culver Cadet G-CDET and notice it has a lot of Philips screws does anyone know if these would be original fittings or would they be slotted screws. I would like to make it as authentic as possible within reason. Does anyone knoe where I can find what the original colour scheme would have been?
Thanks

Mine has a mix of Philips and slotted screws. I think that slotted ones are more original, but the patent of Philips is from 1936, so they are already available when our planes where produced.

Hi all,

My dad bought NC37803 in the summer of 1977. It had sat in a hangar in west Texas since 1957 or so. It was extremely original.

I distinctly remember when I helped my dad dissemble it that there was virtually no Philips screws anywhere on the entire airplane.
It seems to me that we literally only found a couple.

As for its colors. It had a black fuselage and rudder, with the factory standard three parallel stripes down the fuselage. It had red wings and elevator.

You can see pictures of it on this forum in the "pictures wanted" section.

Hope this helps.

Dan
