Maintenance and Repair / Re: Placing Cadet on stands
« on: August 10, 2022, 01:18:44 PM »
HI,  At this late date.......  The tiedown points on the wings of the PQ8 (at station 91) as indicated in that aircraft manual and noted above were not installed on most LFA & LCA aircraft.  If you have then, great, but there are very few.  My earlier post was for drilling and installing jack pad / tie down points at station 43 to accomplish the same thing.  Station 43 has good naccess with the inspection access plate there but cannot be used on a PQ-8 or Lark ( nose wheel) because the rearward mounted main gear is in the way but it works very well on a tailwheel.  The jack points, being a total of 92" closer together put less stress on the wing span load when jacking, but for less stress if tied down in strong winds the outboard tiedowns have the advantage.  PR

Culver General Discussion / The qualities of wood in aircraft
« on: January 29, 2016, 07:10:14 PM »
I saw this long ago and thought I would pass it along.  Have no idea who the author was:

" The next time someone sneers at a wooden airplane, remind them that it is made of a UNIDIRECTIONAL REINFORCED LAMINATED COMPOSITE material consisting of MICRO-TUBULAR fibers embedded in a LONG CHAIN POLYMER MATRIX and having a near infinite fatigue life!"

If they have a puzzled look after that, don't say anything more, just smile an all knowing smile. ::)
