Parts For Sale / Carwil Type 61 Bubble Face Compass for sale
« on: December 06, 2012, 06:17:04 PM »
I ended up with two bubble face compasses for my Cadet project so I decided to sell one of them and thought
I'd offer it to my fellow Culver Forum members first before it goes on eBay.
It is the correct Carwil Type 61 Bubble Face compass and has a fresh Keystone Instuments overhaul.
These compasses have gotten crazy expensive but I will sell to one of you guys for what I'm into it.
$625 plus shipping.  These really will make that panel look original!

Thanks for looking.

Parts Wanted / Wanted: Continental C85-12 Data Plate
« on: February 08, 2012, 02:21:07 PM »
Anyone have a used C85-12 Data Plate that they would sell me?  This needs to be off an original engine that has a bad or cracked, etc,  non-usable case with a serial number (a new non-stamped data plate won't work for me).

Thanks,

Culver General Discussion / Culver "winged" logo source
« on: January 23, 2012, 11:47:56 PM »
Anyone have a source for the winged Culver logo like on Bill's vertical stab and also seen on various instrument panels?
Either stickers or paint templates would work for me.

Thanks!

Modifications / Aft Fuel Tank
« on: January 21, 2012, 01:08:14 PM »
My Cadet (457) has the optional 15 gallon aft fuel tank. My 90hp Franklin that came with it also has the 8 qt sump that appears to be required when the aft tank is installed. (I assume for weight & balance purposes)

I have looked at every photo of a Cadet that I can find and I can't see any of them with a rear tank filler like mine. It is on the upper right side just behind the passenger door. How many have this option?

Anyone have any experience with this rear tank or any thoughts about it? I almost wish my plane didn't have it.
Kind of somewhat defeats the simple nature of the Culvers I think.

I can take a photo of the installation if someone would like to see it.

Documentation / O-200 Continental?
« on: January 06, 2012, 06:45:22 AM »
I'm still deciding whether to keep my project's Franklin or go with a Continental. If I make the change - how tough would it be to get an O-200 approved? Parts are plentiful and relatively cheap and the 100hp would be a big plus. Anyone have any experience with a Cadet and an O-200? What do you guys think?

Culver General Discussion / Franklin 90hp Engine?
« on: December 29, 2011, 03:31:28 PM »
Thanks Bill for starting this forum!  I'm not only new here but I just recently purchased Culver Cadet #457 N41735 - a project that hasn't been in the air since 1960! My plane came with an overhauled 90hp Franklin 4AC-199. My first thought was to find/build an LCA mount and go Continental but maybe I should rethink this and consider using the Franklin. My question is for you guys flying Culvers with the Franklins. What are the pros and cons?  Are they capable of being a reliable and safe engine?  What about parts availability?  Would you go Franklin again?
I think I'm looking at an excuse to keep the original Franklin if I can justify it.
What do you who know think?  Any and all opinions will be appreciated.

Thanks very much,
Scott Crosby
