Modifications / camshaft/timing celeron gear

Anyone know anything about the replacement of the cam gear in the AC199E3 from the celeron gear to a metal one?  I read that this was a weak link in this engine.

Culver General Discussion / slots in wings

Does anyone have info on closing the slots on the wings?  Does it produce better handling, landing or higher cruising speed?  I understand there are some with the slots covered but why?

Depending on your engine, please give a little info on performance of your plane if now flying.  Stall speed, spin recovery and speed at recovery.  Rotation speed and over the fence and cruise speed.
I know this depends on your prop also.

Culver General Discussion / Mechanical landing gear

It is my understanding from the A&P that the landing gear has a form of hydraulic damping system built in to slowly lower the gear before locking it in place with the leaver. It appears to be a cannister with the fluid in it and causes the pressure on the landing gear so that it slowly lowers rather than just falling and having to lock it in place. Seems to be quite a unique, simple system for something built in the early 40's.

You guys that have already been through the process of restoring a Culver and are flying, don't forget us newbies that are struggling.  I for one need any data as best type of prop you are using for speed, climbing etc.  What to do that helps cruise speed?  What is old hat to some are desperately needed by others and we are a small group.  Anyone know of planes just sitting, stored parts, engine parts etc. You get the Idea. Money is also helpful so if anyone knows where some is ~~ PLEASE call me!   W
