Culver General Discussion / Re: Cross Country Trip Ideas
« on: May 19, 2012, 11:52:29 AM »
It will be awhile before I can do any cross country but maybe as time goes on we all could meet in a central location  ~~  or maybe have several fly In's in different locations (as regional) and just spend the weekend together and hang out at some small no hassle airport.  Any thoughts along this line?

Culver General Discussion / Re: I fly GPS moving map

Thanks Bill!   This helps to show the mounting stance also.  It seems so much more expensive to go Garman etc if this would do the job and I understand that each has different expectations and needs.

need info on the I Fly 700 GPS.  Anyone know anything about these?  I see them for sale slightly used and was wondering if there was something that was lacking with them?  It appears to have most everything that the much more expensive units have and are less expensive also.

Parts Wanted / mags
« on: April 15, 2012, 07:37:46 PM »
Does anyone know the # or type of mags that fit the 90 Franklin?
Does the Eisemann AM-4, Slick 4392, BendixS4RN-20/21  work?  What about the gears?  Will one set of gears work on all the mags?  I'm lost!

I'm in need of an Eisemann mag for a 4AC199E3 engine.  I think it is an AM-4.  Would like it to be a unit ready to mount.  Thanks  Woody

Sorry, these were the original ones still in the waterproof box (C10S Champion) that had the offset in them.

Well, it's been years since flying behind a Continental 100 and had four engine outs that summer as I recall. (racing)  and now have two 0 time 4Ac199E3 Franklin's and a 65.  Price is much cheaper than the Cont. and parts seem to be plentiful.  I bought new plugs (set of 10) for $ 55 so I was happy with that.  I will pick one and sell the other and the 65 when they are rebuilt unless I find another project.  After talking with the old boys, I'm very happy with the Franklin plus it's original!

Modifications / camshaft/timing celeron gear
« on: March 23, 2012, 07:05:09 PM »
Anyone know anything about the replacement of the cam gear in the AC199E3 from the celeron gear to a metal one?  I read that this was a weak link in this engine.

Culver General Discussion / Re: performance of Culver
« on: February 24, 2012, 06:33:43 PM »
Nice to know Tim.  I'm wondering if cutting to 70" might help a bit?  Some charts do not recommend more than 70" length.  Now thinking of 69x56 or 70x56 pitch.    Anyone ever tried these?  Compromise with safety is the key.
