Culver General Discussion / Culver Cadet actual sales prices
« on: February 19, 2018, 04:21:22 AM »
Hi all,

I was wondering if all you Culver Cadet owners out there could help me out. I am seriously looking at a franklin powered Culver that is out of annual but low time since restoration. What I need to know if people don't mind telling me what they paid for a flying Culver and when they bought their airplane.
I really need to figure out the actual real value of the airplane I'm looking at. I want to be honest in making an offer but I also want to be fair to my self as well as the seller.

please feel free to email me at parrakeet1936@gmail.com

thank you,

Dan

Hi all,

I am just finishing the last detail work on the new left wing before installing the leading edge skins and wing walk skin.

I just realized that I do not have a reference on how the pitot tube attaches to the wing.

Also, I do not have a pitot tube.

Can someone help me with this?

Dan

Maintenance and Repair / Landing gear locking pin
« on: September 27, 2015, 03:53:18 PM »
Hi all,

I have been working on my wings and have been trying to determine how much play/clearance the down lock pin in the landing gear should have.

I realize that too loose and the gear legs have too much play (side to side) and too tight of a clearance and the locking pin might not slide in.

Any thoughts?

Hi all,

Here is a picture of my new instrument panel with all the hard to find instruments in place.

I still need a Compass and tachometer.

I'm planning on finding a WWII vintage sensitive altimeter (like something out of a T-6, Stearman, etc).
I really don't want to use a non sensitive altimeter.

Maintenance and Repair / Re: Philips screws
« on: August 29, 2014, 02:06:37 PM »
Hi all,

My dad bought NC37803 in the summer of 1977. It had sat in a hangar in west Texas since 1957 or so. It was extremely original.

I distinctly remember when I helped my dad dissemble it that there was virtually no Philips screws anywhere on the entire airplane.
It seems to me that we literally only found a couple.

As for its colors. It had a black fuselage and rudder, with the factory standard three parallel stripes down the fuselage. It had red wings and elevator.

You can see pictures of it on this forum in the "pictures wanted" section.

Hope this helps.

Dan

Hi all,

Here is a few pictures of N41706 S/N 415 taken about 1982. It sat outside on the ramp at Long Beach (CA) airport from about 1976 to 1982. I bought the remains for parts in 2010. Not one piece of wood other than the horizontal stabilizer survived the elements.

From what I can tell by looking at the airplane, it looks like someone was in the process of doing a rebuild and it was abandoned abruptly.

What really looks to have caused so much damage to the wood is it had a shoddy cover job that looks like someone put on a coat or two of dope, applied the finishing tapes and put on a thin coat of some sort of enamel. No silver or any other U.V. protection.

Even areas like the wings that should have had protection from the elements looked like moisture got under the fabric and stayed wet. It looked like it had been under water.

Well anyway that is the fate of S/N 415. Most of its metal parts are now in S/N 379.

Hi all,

I am looking for an original Culver airspeed indicator (the one that has the Dart logo), as well as an oil temperature and oil pressure gauge.

The oil temp and oil pressure gauges are marked as U.S. gauge Co. NY They also have the Dart logo on them.

Hi all,

I just went to the local vintage Ford shop (CW Moss in Orange, CA) and bought a new Model A Ford amperes gauge
for my airplane. This is the amperes gauge Culver used.

It is a 1 3/8" gauge and best of all a new Model A Ford amperes gauge costs $8.00.
