original tires
« on: July 23, 2012, 06:52:33 PM »
Hi all,

Just thought I'd post a few pictures of a new old stock Goodrich 500-4 tire like were standard equipment on Culver Cadets out of the factory.

I suspect that this tire's primary application was a tail wheel tire for a large airplane of the time.

With that said, I'm going to start asking around Chino airport among the War Bird people there if they have a source for new production or a re-tread person that could take a mold and reproduce the tread?

Does anyone know if the smooth, treadless tires were also factory installed on new Cadets?

I have never seen a Culver (new) in pictures, but I know there were smooth tread tires of the same size made for said wheels.
I bought the remains of a Culver that rotted into the ramp at Long Beach, CA airport, and it had smooth tread tires.

I bought a set of  tires from Desser Tire for my first Cadet in the late 1960's.  When they arrived, they were the smooth ones.  I don't know whether they were NOS or if they were still in production.  I can remember seeing them on Ercoupes also.
