Now I'm wondering why the vertical stabilizer is so far forward of the horizontal stabilizer?  Does that have anything to do with adverse power on stalls?

Spin recovery. The horizontal will not blank the rudder when it's that far back; likewise, many other airplanes have the horizontal forward and higher, leaving a fairly large area of rudder un-blanked below the horizontal.

Nice to meet you last weekend at Moriarty NM Muni (OEO). I stopped with my dog to talk at the pumps. The tailwind that helped you along was driven by some really nasty stuff that left us with freezing rain and snow. I was hoping it wouldn't catch up with you. Sounds like you had a great trip!

My name is Chris Kinnaman and I live in Edgewood, New Mexico. I am mostly interested in the Culver Dart, with an idea of scratchbuilding one to avoid the hassles and costs of certificated aircraft ownership. Though a Cadet would be pretty cool, too.

Thanks for starting this forum. I am primarily interested in the Culver Dart. Any leads on obtaining mfg. drawings for the Dart would be greatly appreciated.
