Parts For Sale / Carwil Type 61 Bubble Face Compass for sale
« on: December 06, 2012, 06:17:04 PM »
I ended up with two bubble face compasses for my Cadet project so I decided to sell one of them and thought
I'd offer it to my fellow Culver Forum members first before it goes on eBay.
It is the correct Carwil Type 61 Bubble Face compass and has a fresh Keystone Instuments overhaul.
These compasses have gotten crazy expensive but I will sell to one of you guys for what I'm into it.
$625 plus shipping.  These really will make that panel look original!

Thanks for looking.

Culver General Discussion / Re: Cadet Brakes

Whoops...Brett already mentioned the Grove Cub 4" conversion above.

On a different note - anybody know what the source for the original master cylinders is?  I think it is early Plymouth but could be wrong.

Thanks,
Scott

Wouldn't Grove's Cub 8:00x4:00 disc brake conversion work for somebody who already had good original Hayes/Goodrich 5.00X4.00 wheels and tires?  I think the disc would rivit on just the same as on the Cub's wider wheels. And, there would be no clearance/weight issues using the original wheels.

Parts Wanted / Wanted: Continental C85-12 Data Plate
« on: February 08, 2012, 02:21:07 PM »
Anyone have a used C85-12 Data Plate that they would sell me?  This needs to be off an original engine that has a bad or cracked, etc,  non-usable case with a serial number (a new non-stamped data plate won't work for me).

Thanks,

Culver General Discussion / Culver "winged" logo source
« on: January 23, 2012, 11:47:56 PM »
Anyone have a source for the winged Culver logo like on Bill's vertical stab and also seen on various instrument panels?
Either stickers or paint templates would work for me.

Thanks!

Modifications / Re: Aft Fuel Tank
« on: January 22, 2012, 04:39:41 PM »
I just looked at my aux tank plumbing.  The line comes up and through an on/off valve on the panel and then feeds directly into the back top side of the main tank. That's it.  I used to have a plane that used a hand operated wobble pump that was used to keep the aux tanks topping off the main tank. You would know the tank was too full when gas would overflow the vent!

I agree - who needs that kind of range?  I wish I didn't have this tank but I don't think I can remove it without
de-skinning the fuselage.

Both left and right aluminum lines going down from the tank go to quick drains.
The line runs through a bulkhead fitting and then along the left side next to the seat, then up to the panel.
There is a fuel selector on the panel with  main/aux positions. (it may have an off, too. I'll check)
The panel has an aux fuel pump switch.
I will check and see if the aux tank feeds the main tank or goes directly to the engine.

My Cadet (457) has the optional 15 gallon aft fuel tank. My 90hp Franklin that came with it also has the 8 qt sump that appears to be required when the aft tank is installed. (I assume for weight & balance purposes)

I have looked at every photo of a Cadet that I can find and I can't see any of them with a rear tank filler like mine. It is on the upper right side just behind the passenger door. How many have this option?

Anyone have any experience with this rear tank or any thoughts about it? I almost wish my plane didn't have it.
Kind of somewhat defeats the simple nature of the Culvers I think.

I can take a photo of the installation if someone would like to see it.

Documentation / Re: O-200 Continental?

Bill - I'm told that N281W has an 0-200.  Any info on that one?
Thanks,
Scott

I think that there might be another way to go with an O-200 in a round about way but legally.  Don Sword of Don's Dream Machines not only has an STC for using an O-200 crank, rods and pistons in a C-85 - he also has an STC for using an O-200 case to replace a C-85 case. He did say that you must use a C-85 data plate on the replacement 0-200 case. So, if I am understanding Don correctly, the only C-85 parts used would be the cam and lifters and cylinder assemblies. And, several in my area are using new 0-200 cylinder assemblies like from Superior on their C-85's.
Seems like a pretty easy way to go and the engine remains legally a C-85.

What do you think?

I have a couple questions about the bushings on the landing gear torque links and c-springs. My gear was all disassembled with bushings missing.

Are the torque link bushings bronze or steel? And is there a small bushing where they pivot?
Are there bronze/steel bushings in the ends of the c-spring ends?
Bronze/steel bushings on the lower socket and upper oleo housing?

Thanks!
Scott
