Culver General Discussion / Re: Antenna Installations
« on: January 11, 2012, 12:46:30 PM »
My project has what appears to be aluminum screen draped across the top underside of the fuselage for a ground plane and a hole in the top plywood skin where a bent whip antennae likely went. I need to do something different than this, too.

Documentation / O-200 Continental?
« on: January 06, 2012, 06:45:22 AM »
I'm still deciding whether to keep my project's Franklin or go with a Continental. If I make the change - how tough would it be to get an O-200 approved? Parts are plentiful and relatively cheap and the 100hp would be a big plus. Anyone have any experience with a Cadet and an O-200? What do you guys think?

My project came with the dash pot. I will be at my hangar tomorrow and I'll take a photo and post it.  I think one could be made if necessary.

My name is Scott Crosby. I live in Roseville, California and recently purchased 1942 Culver Cadet N41735 #457 which hasn't been in the air since 1960. It's powered by a 90hp Franklin and has 589 total hours. My Culver #457 appears to be the last one sold to the general public with #458 kept for test purposes. I've had many different planes but for some reason - I am very excited for a change about restoring this little plane back to it's former glory!

Hey Woody - Who are you having rebuild your Franklin?  I will be facing this issue soon or deciding if I should tackle  it myself.
Thanks,

Culver General Discussion / Franklin 90hp Engine?
« on: December 29, 2011, 03:31:28 PM »
Thanks Bill for starting this forum!  I'm not only new here but I just recently purchased Culver Cadet #457 N41735 - a project that hasn't been in the air since 1960! My plane came with an overhauled 90hp Franklin 4AC-199. My first thought was to find/build an LCA mount and go Continental but maybe I should rethink this and consider using the Franklin. My question is for you guys flying Culvers with the Franklins. What are the pros and cons?  Are they capable of being a reliable and safe engine?  What about parts availability?  Would you go Franklin again?
I think I'm looking at an excuse to keep the original Franklin if I can justify it.
What do you who know think?  Any and all opinions will be appreciated.

Thanks very much,
Scott Crosby
